BIS Standards

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has set various quality standards for cement in the Indian market to ensure that manufacturers produce high-quality cement that meets the required standards for various construction applications. The most common standards for cement quality in India are: 
  • IS 269: This standard is for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and sets the minimum requirements for the chemical and physical properties of the cement.
  • IS 455: This standard is for Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and sets the minimum requirements for the chemical and physical properties of the cement.
  • IS 1489: This standard is for Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and specifies the quality requirements and methods of testing for fly ash-based cement.
  • IS 12269: This standard is for 53-grade OPC and sets the minimum requirements for the chemical and physical properties of the cement.
  • IS 12330: This standard is for Sulphate Resistant Cement (SRC) and specifies the minimum requirements for the chemical and physical properties of the cement.
  • IS 12600: This standard is for Low Heat Portland Cement (LHPC) and specifies the minimum requirements for the chemical and physical properties of the cement.
  • IS 1489 (Part 2): This standard is for Masonry Cement and specifies the quality requirements and methods of testing for masonry cement.
